Governor Brewer Appoints Maricopa County Superior Court Judge

Governor Jan Brewer today appointed Timothy Thomason to the Maricopa County Superior Court.

"Tim brings to the bench an impressive legal background, including extensive experience in private practice as a civil litigator and as a judge pro tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Court," said Governor Brewer. "With wide-ranging civil expertise, a proven record of efficacy and a fair-minded judicial temperament, I am confident Tim will serve the court and the county with distinction."

Mr. Thomason has been a partner with the law firm Dickinson Wright (formerly known as Mariscal Weeks, McIntyre & Friedlander) since 2001 and previously was a partner at Streich Lang (1984-2001). He also has served as a judge pro tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Court and as a private mediator and arbitrator for more than a decade. Mr. Thomason's practice primarily consists of professional liability defense, real estate litigation, insurance, commercial law and banking litigation.

Mr. Thomason has earned statewide and national recognition from his legal peers. He has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, named one of the Best Lawyers in America, ranked as one of the Top 50 Lawyers in Arizona by Southwest Super Lawyer and achieved an AV rating from Martindale-Hubble.

Mr. Thomason provides pro bono representation through the Volunteer Lawyers Program and has authored more than a dozen legal articles on various topics, including deficiency judgments, escrow, corporate attorney-client privilege, discovery, expert testimony, evidence and juries. He also was a contributing author to the Arizona Tort Law Handbook (2012). He currently serves on the state committee for the American College of Trial Lawyers and has performed leadership roles in the American Bar Association's Litigation Section (1997-2005), including service as the chair of the Trial Practice Committee and the Health Law Litigation Committee. He also served on the State Bar's Trial Practice and Procedure Committee, Arizona Civil Practice and Procedure Committee, and the American Bar Association Discovery Task Force. He has been on the board of trustees for Childsplay since 1996 and currently serves as the President.

Mr. Thomason received his law degree, with highest distinction, from the University of Iowa (1984) and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Creighton University (1981). He has been appointed by Governor Brewer to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Maria del Mar Verdin.
